Fire Service Women Ontario (FSWO) proudly presents the Champion of Communications Award to Kathryn Hendrick in recognition of her extraordinary commitment, expertise, and unwavering support in elevating the voice of women in the fire service.
For more than a decade, Kathryn has generously served as FSWO’s Media Relations Director, providing in-kind support that has been instrumental in promoting FSWO’s Annual Training Symposiums, managing media events, and offering trusted guidance during times of crisis. Her work has garnered nationwide media attention, shining a spotlight on both the tremendous value women bring to the fire service and the challenges they continue to face.
A seasoned journalist, respected publicist, and principal consultant of Kathryn Hendrick Communications, Kathryn has leveraged her deep expertise in strategic communications to create lasting impact on important causes across Canada. She has trained FSWO board members in media relations, spearheaded national campaigns, and played a pivotal role in advancing recognition for the fire service—including serving as the founding Director of Communications for the Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation and leading communications for the design and construction of the National Firefighter Memorial in Ottawa.
Her steadfast commitment extends beyond professional excellence—Kathryn personally invested in FSWO’s mission by self-funding her travel and accommodations to support the symposium for many years prior to 2022. Since then she has continued as an annual sponsor while collaborating with FSWO’s Communications Committee to build new capacity, including co-leading highly successful workshops on mastering social media.
Through her dedication, generosity, and vision, Kathryn Hendrick has profoundly strengthened FSWO’s credibility, amplified its voice across Canada, and helped create lasting recognition for women in the fire service.
