Louise Hine-Schmidt has been promoted to Deputy Chief of Ottawa Fire Services. Louise formerly held the position of Division Chief of Safety and was one of the first of three female firefighters hired in the City of Ottawa in 1999. She also served as the first President of FSWO from 2009-2011 and then again from 2015-2019.
With the support of Starfield Lion, this year’s Pink Helmet of Courage Award goes to someone whose openness and strength has been an inspiration. FSWO is proud to recognize Firefighter Josie Downes who has been with Calgary Fire Department since 2017.
FSWO is pleased to present the President’s Trailblazer Award to Ottawa Fire Services Captain Tracey Shields. Nominated by FSWO Past President Louise Hine-Schmidt, the award recognizes Tracey as an inspirational leader who has shared the FSWO common vision to make a difference for women who are contemplating careers in the fire service.
FSWO is pleased to present the Diversity and Inclusion Award to Ret. Chief Dave Shelton from the Montreal Fire Department. This year’s recipient has been nominated by Toronto
Fire Services firefighter Patricia Youn in order to recognize his dedication throughout his career to promote diversity and inclusivity in the fire service not only for the City of Montreal, but for other cities as well.
