FSWO announces 2018 winner of 3 'E' Award, Captain Al Steeves

Each year, FSWO is pleased to recognize the outstanding efforts of either an individual or an organization that in their own unique way supports FSWO’s mandate of Educating, Encouraging and Empowering women who work in the fire service field. This year’s recipient Al Steeves is a very worthy individual who is highly regarded and respected as an instructor at Conestoga College and as a Captain with the City of Kitchener’s Fire Department.

The nominators of the 3E award describe Al Steeves as a humble and noble mentor to both men and women in the fire service who continually and tirelessly devotes his time towards educating, encouraging and empowering individuals pursuing a career in the fire service as well as those already on the job. This includes his past and ongoing commitments that encourage women to enter the fire service, being a member of Kitchener Fire’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and promoting and working in programs such as Kitchener’s Young Female Firefighter and Hamilton’s Camp FFIT. This individual also works very hard at maximizing the potential of both his students while always exhibiting the qualities that are so important to the fire service; knowledge, leadership, mutual respect and integrity.

Please join FSWO in congratulating Captain Al Steeves of the Kitchener Fire Department and Instructor at Conestoga College who is FSWO’s selection for the 2018 3E Award.
