This course will introduce participants to the basics of confined space rescue based on the JPRs of NFPA 1006, chapter 7. Participants will be introduced subjects that include defining, identifying and explaining confined space, identifying specific hazards, Personal Protective Equipment. Participants will set up equipment for a rescue and have an opportunity to work through the confined space maze.

PPE Requriements

Completion of NFPA 1001 - Firefighter I and II or equivalent experience
Full bunker gear - Coat, pants, gloves, helmet, boots, hood.
Full SCBA - including Facepiece, backplate, cylinder

Chad Kavanaugh

Chad is a full time Fire Service Instructor at FESTI and a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) with over 20 years of experience in industrial emergency response and occupational health and safety in the private and public sector for provincial, federal and US jurisdictions. He is the former provincial lead for confined spaces and technical rescue for Ontario’s largest safe work association and a subject matter expert in confined spaces and confined space rescue, having authored over 7,500 confined space hazard assessments, entry and rescue procedures, and designing and delivering training for rescue teams across North America. Chad holds several NFPA certifications including Pro Board certification as a confined space technician and rope rescue technician, and is a Voting Member of the Technical Committee for Canadian Standards Association Z1006 Management of work in confined spaces where he is also Chair of the rescue planning subcommittee.
