Encampments have always been a concerns for the City of Toronto, but Covid brought it to a whole new level. In this session, we will be discussing what is an encampment, how it became such a big concern, the fire issues, and the Public Education role and when Inspections/Enforcement must be included in the response.
Acting Division Chief Susan Ing, P.Eng. is currently responsible for the Public Education and Professional Development section of Toronto Fire Services. She has been with Toronto Fire Services for 25 years, working in Inspections/Enforcement, Plans Examination, and Professional Development as a Training Captain. Previously with Toronto Buildings, Mississauga Fire Services and the Fire Commissioner of Canada, she holds a B.A.Sc. degree from University of Toronto Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering.
Captain Roman Wojnarski has had 37 years of service with Toronto Fire Services (originally Toronto Fire Department), of which 30 years in Inspections/Enforcement in the south part of the City applying both the Ontario Fire Code and Ontario Building Code, and the last 7 years in the Public Education Division. He has been on the Encampment Strategy Team since its inception in May 2020.
During his career, he has had numerous hybrid and specialty assignments including:
